Abstract

Containers or pipes for the storage or transport of pastes, free flowing solids or liquids contg. an acid, hydrolysing liquid phase, are made of anionically polymerised polylactam outer wall and an inner wall in contact with the contents of a hydrolysis-resistant material. The outer polyamide layer may be foamed or expanded and reinforced e.g. with glass fibre or asbestos. The inner wall may consist of polycaprolactam contg. 10-90% polyethylene, PTFE or alkali(ne earth) lactamate, or peroxide-polymerised vinyl cpds. such as polymethacrylates, polyurethanes or rubbers. The tanks are suitably made by rotational moulding. They have better resistance to materials such as fuel oil contg. acid hydrolysing liquid phase then glass reinforced polyester containers.
