Abstract
Solid bodies, esp. monocrystal Al2O3 or SiC fibres, or bodies contg. metallic W or Mo, as the main component, are protected against reaction with Cr, Co or Ni by provision of a coating formed from an oxide of Y, Ce, Hf, La or Th. The method is esp. useful in the prodn. of fibre-reinforced metal bodies, as high temps. can be applied so that the bodies can be manufactured by casting a molten metal with fibres dispersed therein. Tools used in the hot-pressing of metals can also be protected by this method.
