Abstract

Bonded particulate material (esp. foundry sand moulds and cores) is formed by mixing the particulate material with aqs. alkali metal silicate and a mixture of diacetin and triacetin, shaping and allowing to harden. Pref. sodium silicate is used with a SiO2 : Na2O ratio of 2-3.3:1. The particular ester hardener mixture provides ideal hardening time and good shelf life.
