Abstract

The antibiotic, known as BH 890, is prepd. by fermentation of a strain of Streptomyces misionensis in an aqs. nutrient medium in aerobic conditions. The crude fungicide is separated from the fermentation medium and exists in two forms alpha and beta. BH 890 is active in vivo against Candida albiscans and Cryptococcus neoformus and can be used to treat infections caused by these microorganisms.
