Abstract

Upgrading the value of the heat produced in a nuclear reactor, particularly a gas cooled, heavy water-moderated reactor of the type in which the coolant absorbs heat in the reactor and gives it up in a steam-generating assembly by reheating, vaporising and superheating a vaporisable fluid, which in general constitutes the working fluid in a steam turbine thermodynamic cycle, by dividing the coolant, in so far as its circulation through the nuclear reactor and a part of the steam generating assembly is concerned, into two streams brought to two different temps in the reactor. The first and second streams are brought to lower and higher temps. respectively and then undergo heat exchange with working fluid in its liquid state and vaporised working fluid respectively in order to cause vaporisation of the former and superheating of the latter.
