Abstract

Bonded lacquer coatings are formed on substrates by applying a film of a soln. of 20-80 pts. wt. vinyl monomer and 80-20 pts. wt. alpha, beta-alkenically unsatd. acrylic/siloxane resin, and crosslinking the film by ionising radiation. The acrylic/siloxane resin is prepd. by (a) reacting a siloxane with at least two functional groups with a hydroxyacrylate obtained by reacting a diol with 2-8C atoms and (meth)acrylic acid, (b) reacting the product with a mixt. of vinyl monomers contg. glycidyl (meth) acrylate, and (c) reacting the formed resin with a carboxy- or hydroxy acrylic compd., such as (meth) acrylic and or its monohydroxy esters with 2-8C diols. Firmly bonded films with a controlled flexibility and excellent weather resistance are obtained on wood, metals, glass, polymers and natural or synthetic fibres.
