Abstract

Soft water is produced from sea-water in a plant in which the latter is heated in a series of heaters and then evaporated by successive expansions in a series of chambers, the steam produced in the latter is used to feed the heating tubes of the heaters where it condenses to give soft water. Such plants are frequently associated with thermo-electric generating stations where the necessary heat energy is supplied by the exhaust steam from the turbines.
