Abstract

The cylindrical boiler is mounted vertically in a tower (T). The outer wall of the tower is formed of lenses (L) which focus the sun's rays on to an inner wall also composed of lenses which concentrate the rays still further to heat the water in the cylindrical boiler. The steam generated by heating the water passes into a compression chamber (2) and then flows to the turbine (3) which drives the electric generator (4). The drive from the turbine is by means of toothed wheels and a chain or belt. The lenses in the outer wall are mounted on pivots and can be rotated to be parallel with the sun's rays and so control the heat input.
