Abstract

Base layer is a fleece of fibres twisted under one another. One or more coats of a uniformly microporous polymer adhere to one or both sides of the base layer. The fibres of the base layer are twisted with one another in a regular way in repeating patterns of locally dense regions of twisted fibres connected by less dense neighbouring regions of twisted fibres. Pref. part of the base layer is shrunk staple and the rest is unshrunk staple. The polymer is a polyurethane, or a mixture of this and PVC. The fibres are acrylic, cellulosic, polyester, polyamide and/or polyolefin. Preparation is described.
