Abstract

An annular seal ring with a bevelled face is clamped in the housing of a butterfly valve having a matching chamfer on its periphery. The seal ring is clamped between ribbed metal blocks and is replaceable. The valve itself is mounted on pivots turning in needled bearings protected by resilient seal rings. Pref. the seal is made of PTFE containing 12-18% wt. glass fibre filler-alternatively the seal may be a PTFE coating on a spring steel support.
