Abstract

Hides are skins are treated with high m.wt. (>2000000) silicic acid polymers during the manufacture of furs and leather. Pref. concentration is 0.3-10% by wt. of the skins. May be added as dispersion in water or other solvent or in dry state. It improves the adherence of the hair side of the skins, facilitates penetration of tanning agents, increases heat and mechanical resistance and improves tinctorial power of colourants.
