1468054 Arsenic trioxide tanning INTERNATIONAL TANNING CHEMIE ESTABLISHMENT 13 Nov 1974 49111/74 Heading C6C Tanning compositions in the form of pastes comprise arsenic trioxide; a polar solvent e.g. methanol; a liquid organic cleanser e.g. kerosene and ground asbestos together with a salt of carbonic acid selected from sodium and potassium carbonates and bicarbonates. The composition may also contain a colouring material and/or an anti-bacterial agent such as sodium pentachlorophenol. Skins are tanned by placing a thin layer of the above tanning composition on the flesh side of the skin, allowing the composition to remain upon the skin until dry and removing the dried composition by rubbing with an abrasive such as sandpaper. The tanned skin may be further treated by rubbing oil on the tanned surface.
