Abstract
Body has a longitudinal passage in which a bar can slide relative to it, and at least two inductor coils can have out-of-phase currents through them to create in the passage a magnetic field which slides in the direction parallel to the passage axis. The bar has a given length and a section to fit the passage. It has a peripheral sheath for induction, of an electrical conductor, pref. Al or Al alloyo, and an inner core of magnetic material, pref. powder. Pref. the body is a sleeve of insulator, around which the induction coils are wound to produce a sliding magnetic field in the sleeve core. The sleeve is of PTFE or a material of comparable electrical, heat-resistance, and mechanical properties.
