Abstract

1454783 Induction heating device ROTARY ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 9 May 1974 [23 June 1973] 29931/73 Heading H5H An induction heater for heating metallic rings, e.g. bearings 8 of varying sizes, comprises a body 1 having a support surface 3 for the metallic rings, a first C-shaped magnetic core 5 carrying an energizing winding 6 mounted in the body with its ends accessible from the surface 3 for co-operation with a second C- shaped magnetic core extension member 4 which is movable to enable a ring to be introduced into the closed magnetic circuit formed by members 4 and 5. As shown, two magnetic circuits 4, 5 are provided which are energized by a common energizing winding 6 and individual trimming windings 7. Preferably each magnetic core extension member 4 is pivoted to its member 5 or to the body 1 so that it may be swung about a horizontal axis to allow the introduction of a ring to be heated . Whilst each magnetic circuit may accommodate different sizes of rings, the use of a plurality of magnetic members 5 with a common energizing winding 6 enables the heating to be accomplished within one or more closed magnetic circuits. The surface 3 is of heat resistant insulating plastics. The body can be filled with potting compound.
