947,850. Electromagnetic coils. COMMUNAUTE EUROPEENNE DE L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE (EURATOM). Oct. 30, 1962 [Nov. 3, 1961], No. 41052/62. Heading H1P. In an electromagnetic coil for producing intense symmetrical magnetic fields and comprising an insulating frame 5 formed by a cylindrical tube 5b terminated at one end by an enlarging annulus 5a on which frame are wound a predetermined number of electrical conductors connected mutually in parallel between two input terminal forming metal rings 1, 2 positioned one on each side of the annulus 5a, each conductor extends radially at 6a, 6b from the rings to the tube 56 helically along the inner and outer surfaces of the tube in opposite pitches and radially across the end 8 of the tube remote from the annulus. The frame and conductors each may be either a single part or two parts connected together, the conductors may define either a whole or a fractional number of turns, and they may have an encircling insulating envelope 9 to resist bursting forces. Coaxial cables 4 connect a source of either continuous or pulsatory current to the rings 1, 2 which also form current-balancing short-circuit turns.
