Abstract

Two-stage surface treatment process involves an activation stage in which the steel part is heated to from 350-700 degrees C., in a strongly nitrating salt bath based on sodium cyanide and a passivation stage for surface fixation comprising reheating between 400 and 600 degrees C. in an adjusted nitrating atmosphere for several tens of hours. The part is subsequently cooled to ambient temp. and its surface is polished in the customary manner.
