Abstract

One or more electrodes made from metal to be recast are melted one after the other under a layer of slag by the heat of the electric current passing through them. Melting takes place in two or more casting cavities which are open at both ends and set one above the other. The cavities' cross-section and dimensions correspond to those required in the ingot. The bath of molten metal formed is cooled by a known technique in each cavity to form a single solid ingot. This method produces forged ingots or rough-cast ingots for making rollers.
