Abstract

Furnace wall.. F-. Comprises a wall of cast refractory material which is covered on its external face by corrugated iron sheets to protect it form heat; these are fixed to the wall and to metallic structural elements which are partly buried in the cast refractory material, which forms the external part of the wall; the latter being such that it may penetrate into the furnace or be covered with a layer of refractory blocks which penetrate into the furnace. Fixing rods are buried in the cast material and project from the external face of the wall; they are anchored to tie rods buried in the refractory material and the projecting ends are screwed and fitted with nuts. The wall is constructed in the following stages: assembling the metallic girders, supporting the load, and the accessory parts such as the fixing rods, the metallic tie rods and the supporting parts: fixing the heat proofing sheets to the girders to form the external lining of the wall: constructing an internal wall with refractory bricks, spaced from the iron sheets: pouring a mixture of a refractory material into the space between the internal wall and the metal sheets, the mixture burying at least a portion of the girders and the accessory parts: and in allowing the mixture, which can be moulded, to set so that it will form a refractory wall adhering to the inner wall.
