Abstract

927,382. Basic refractory bricks. GENERAL REFRACTORIES Ltd. May 25, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 24017/60. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group V] A basic refractory brick contains unfired material moulded alongside fired material, there being over a major part of the length of the brick at least one unfired portion alongside at least one fired portion. Fig. 5 shows an example of a 3-section brick with two dovetailed unfired sections 13B sandwiching a central fired section 12A. Other embodiments, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), include one with two equi-sized sections, one fired and one unfired ; one with an L-shaped fired section, the toe of the " L " replacing part of the unfired section; two, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), similar to that of Fig. 5 but with no dovetails, with either two fired sections and one unfired or two unfired sections and one fired. Further bricks shown include one with two U-plates covering the sides and edges of the brick which has three sections running longitudinally, and a similar one but with internal metal plates separating the three sections. The brick in Fig. 10 has two unfired sections 30B around a fired section 24A which is centrally located on a base-plate 20 by pressed-in tongues. A U-plate may cover the brick and may be welded to the base-plate. The brick in Fig. 13 has an internal U-plate with buckled legs 35 around the centre fired section, and the brick in Fig. 16 has a plate 44 wrapped around the fired section 37A with an out-turned flange 45, forming, with an L-shaped plate 46, a casing to the unfired section 38B. The fired and unfired sections may be of the same or different compositions throughout, materials mentioned being magnesite/chrome, chrome/magnesite and magnesite.
