Abstract

Composite building blocks comprising a relatively thick, hollow core covered with loose woven porous layers of fibres combining reasonable tensile strength with a low dynamic rigidity, the sandwich composite normally being faced with coatings of plaster, asbestos board, cement-based mortars, etc. The core blocks feature hollow, interconnected chambers which pref. vary in size to act as sound-dampening chambers depending on the frequencies which are to be suppressed. The blocks should supply full width support surfaces at intervals as required to support the covering materials. Pref. variations in the overall composite block thickness is achieved by use of various thicknesses of core blocks. The fibres may be impregnated with a binder resin.
