Abstract

Laminated panels are made by coating one face of each of two prefabricated layers of reinforced polyester resin with fibres wetted with a rapid curing polyester compsn., then supporting the fibre-coated layers in a mould for interstitial casting of a foamed core layer. Suitable for mfr. of panels with cores made of polyurethane or phenolic foams. The projecting fibres bonded to the compatible polyester layers provide a key for anchorage of the foam generated against the fibre covered faces, increasing the inter-laminar shear strength of the composite structure. The fibrous dressing may be 10-20 mm. deep. The added fibres are pref. glass.
