Abstract

Prefabricated foam slabs stiffened, prior to application of any overall laminate sheets or covers, by machining surface channels along the direction in which enhanced stiffness is desired and then refilling the channels with resin, e.g. polyester, epoxy, phenolic impregnated strands of glass fibre. Suitable for strengthening foam cores, e.g. to resist manipulation during incorporation into more complex panel assemblies. Application of surface reinforcements is more readily positioned or adapted in pattern than other systems.
