Abstract

1,075,854. Bale sledges. A. W. SAUNDERS and P. G. SAUNDERS. May 20, 1964 [May 20, 1963; Jan. 3, 1964], Nos. 19930/63 and 342/64. Heading B5F. A bale sledge comprises two compartments (B1, B2), Fig. 6 (not shown), arranged side-byside, a pivoted diverter 55 for directing bales into either compartment, means for moving the diverter 55 from one position to its other position after each compartment has been filled, and means for releasing the bales when both compartments have been filled. The sledge is towed behind a baler which delivers bales through a shoot 12 to a front compartment A in double deck formation. When an upper bale operates a member 36 a gate 20 is opened and the diverter directs the bale stack into compartment (B1). This stack operates a lever 60 which moves the diverter so that the next stack is delivered to compartment (B2). The driver then pulls a rope (82), Fig. 3 (not shown), which operates a catch 73 to open pivoted doors 69, 70 at the rear of the sledge. A stack of eight bales is thus released from the sledge and the gates 69, 70 are closed behind them by means of springs (72). A stop 24 operatively linked with the gate 20 prevents a following bale passing through the gate 20 while open to let the stack of four pass through. The sledge may run on wheels or on skids 2 which are hinged at 83 for negotiating rough ground.
