Storage cells 4 are separated from one another by apertured frames or gratings 1 shown in plan in Fig. 1 which may be immersed in a cooling liquid in a tank 6, Fig. 3, having cooling fins 7. The liquid may be circulated through the tank by a pump. The frames may be made of insulating material or metal or of metal covered with insulating material and the bars of the frames may be perforated or notched to facilitate circulation of the cooling liquid or of air if the cells are not enclosed in a tank. Fig. 6 shows in plan a modification in which some of the bars 17b of the frames are interrupted.
