CONSISTE EN PONER EN CONTACTO UNA MEZCLA DE MONOXIDO DE CARBONO E HIDROGENO A TEMPERATURA Y PRESION ELEVADAS CON UN CATALIZADOR QUE COMPRENDE DE 3 A 60 PARTES EN PESO DE COBALTO Y DE 0,1 A 100 PARTES EN PESO DE OTRO METAL SELECCIONADO ENTRE ZIRCONIO, TITANIO, CROMO Y RUTENIO POR CADA 100 PARTES EN PESO DE SILICE, ALUMINA O SILICE-ALUMINA Y QUE SE HA PREPARADO POR AMASADO Y/O IMPREGNACION; DONDE EL CATALIZADOR ESTA PRESENTE EN LA FORMA DE UN LECHO FIJO QUE TIENE UNA SUPERFICIE ESPECIFICA EXTERNA SE (EN CM/ML), Y DONDE DURANTE EL PROCEDIMIENTO SE HACE PASAR UN LIQUIDO CONSTITUIDO POR UNO O MAS HIDROCARBUROS A TRAVES DEL LECHO CATALITICO EN DIRECCION DESCENDENTE JUNTO CON EL GAS DE ALIMENTACION, A UNA VELOCIDAD SUPERFICIAL DE FLUJO DEL LIQUIDO VS (EN CM/S) A LA ENTRADA DEL LECHO CATALITICO. TIENE UTILIDAD EN LA PREPARACION DE DESTILADOS INDUSTRIALES.
