Abstract

The modular construction for a greenhouse (102) has a large area of level, horizontal roofing. A framework (100) defines a supporting area for the roof and the framework is covered with a transparent material such as plastics film (175). In constructing the framework, a series of pyramids (1) are erected vertically. These pyramids each have the same height and their bases, opposite the principal apex, are horizontal and raised. The pyramids are brought together and the principal apex of each pyramid is made to sit on the ground (2). Finally, the pyramids are joined together so that the raised, horizontal and coplanar assembly of their bases defines a horizontal support area for the roof and, the structure is hyperstatic. The pyramids (1) may be constructed with the aid of independent oblong elements (5,6,7,8), e.g. tubes, each pyramid apex corresponding to the meeting point of 3 or more such elements.
