CONSISTE EN OXIDAR UN DERIVADO DE 1,8-NAFTIRIDINA DE FORMULA (II), DONDE R1 ES HIDROGENO O UN GRUPO PROTECTOR, Y R2 ES HIDROGENO O UN GRUPO ALCOHILO INFERIOR CON 1 A 4 ATOMOS DE CARBONO, Y DESPUES HIDROLIZAR EL PRODUCTO DE LA OXIDACION, EN EL CASO DE QUE R1 SEA UN GRUPO PROTECTOR. UN COMPUESTO DE FORMULA (I) TRATANDOLO CON UN ACIDO O UNA BASE SE PUEDE TRANSFORMAR EN UNA SAL NO TOXICA, FARMACEUTICAMENTE ACEPTABLE.
