Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A pyridonecarboxylic acid of formula I (A is =N- or =C-; R1 is (substituted) amino; R2 is (substituted) lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, or lower lakyalkynyl; R3 is H or lower alkyl), or its salt.
EXAMPLE: 6-Cyano-1-ethyl-1,4-dihydro-7-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-4-oxo-1,8-naphthylidine-3-carboxylic acid.
USE: An antibacterial agent and an intermediate of the other compounds I. Effective to gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aerugionsa, and useful not only as medicines for man, but also as animal medicines, fish medicines, food preservatives, etc.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting a novel compound II (Y is a functional group which can be substituted with amine) with an amine of formula R1H.
