Abstract

Drum rotating on an axis aligned near enough horizontally forms a feed chamber for split segments of timber from which the bark has not been removed, in a machine having a chamber for the sepn. of ligneous matter from the bark and other unwanted materials. In addn. there is a distributor chamber for the actual ligneous matter formed by two concentric perforated envelopes. The internal envelope holds the wood segments whilst the outer envelope delivers the bark, sand, dust, as fines. At least one rotary beater extends through the sepg. chamber along the axis of rotation, and is fitted with beaters which act on the split segments by direct shock and by projecting the chips so that it strikes the wall of the inner perforated envelope. Means are fixed to this wall for continuously recycling the segments for the removal of the bark and the cleaning of the fibres, at the level of the beaters. A driving transmission is provided for rotating the drum at variable and adjustable speeds together with the rotary beater. For pref. the sepg. chamber has inside it two rotary beaters on parallel axes, located one on each side of the vertical plane through the actual axis of rotation of the drum. With two rotary beaters their axes are offset vertically.
