CONSISTE EN PONER EN CONTACTO CONTINUO DICHO GAS DE SINTESIS CON UN CATALIZADOR HETEROGENEO QUE COMPRENDE RODIO EN COMBINACION CON SODIO BAJO CONDICIONES DE REACCION ADECUADAS PARA PRODUCIR SELECTIVAMENTE ACIDO ACETICO, ETANOL Y ACETALDEHIDO, EN CANTIDADES SUPERIORES AL 50 POR 100 EN PESO DE LOS COMPONENTES DE DOS O MAS ATOMOS DE CARBONO PRODUCIDOS POR LA REACCION. LA CONCENTRACION DE SODIO EN EL CATALIZADOR NO HA DE SER INFERIOR AL 0,1 POR 100 EN PESO. AL CATALIZADOR SE LE PUEDE AÑADIR MANGANESO PARA AUMENTAR LA VELOCIDAD DEL PROCESO. LA REACCION TIENE LUGAR A UNA TEMPERATURA COMPRENDIDA ENTRE 150 Y 450G Y A UNA PRESION DEL ORDEN DE 1,05 A 700 KG./CM. CUADRADOS.
