Abstract

The pump is used to drain oil from the sump of motor vehicles engines during maintenance operations. The pump comprises an enclosure containing an electric motor having its output shaft coupled to a liquids pump. The pump is constituted from a helical twisted wire running inside a flexible sleeve fixed to the motor enclosure. The wire spiral is coupled to the output shaft of the motor, so when the motor is energised via cables clipped to the battery terminals, the oil is raised by an Archimedes screw principle and is ejected through an outlet tube fitted near the body of the motor. The twisted wire can be made either of metal or plastics material, having the ability to withstand a temp of 150 degrees centigrade.
