Un procedimiento de tratamiento bactericida y bacteriostático de un medio contaminado por bacterias y estreptococos, caracterizado por el hecho de que se introduce en el medio contaminado un mononitroalcohol primario de fórmula general** fórmula** en la cual R1 y R4 representan un radical nitro o hidroxialcohilo inferior y R2 y R3 un radical alcohilo inferior o hidroxialcohilo inferior, en una dosis en relación con el grado de contaminación del medio, comprendida preferentemente entre 10 gramos y 100 gramos por m cúbico de medio contaminado.
