Abstract

The lifetime of acrolein in an aqueous medium such as an oilfield brine or water flood liquor is increased by adding acid to the medium sufficient to reduce its pH to from 2 to 6 and thus the acrolein is effective for controlling the growth of organisms or for scavenging hydrogen sulphate in the medium over a longer period.
