Abstract

Bacteriological digestion is successively anaerobic and anerobic, the latter phase being accompanied by agitation in contact with air. The purification can be regulated by an initial seeding with periodical complementary seedings, in the anaerobic phase. Plant has a deep anaerobic tank, an immersed pump, which can be lifted by a hoist and lower into the primary settlement tank, an overflow weir leading to the aerobic tank, a high press. aerator, a baffle-plate weir leading to the secondary settlement tank and a V-shaped outlet weir. The clear liq. from the outlet is completely purified and can be used for irrigation purposes. It contains dissolved oxygen and is rich in salts, such as nitrates and phosphates, which are directly assimilated by plant roots. The collected sludge is pumped to drying beds; the wt. of dry sludge amts. to about 10% of the corresponding organic matter at the entrance to the plant.
