Abstract
Un procedimiento para la etilación de mono alquil bencenos en los cuales el sustituyente alquilo contiene 1 ó 2 átomos de carbono, caracterizado porque comprende poner en contacto al mono alquil benceno con teileno en presencia de hidrógeno bajo condiciones de conversión que incluyen una temperatura entre 350 y 500ºC, una presión mayor que la atmosférica pero menor que 28 kg/cm2, empleando una relación molar hidrógeno a etileno en la gama aproximada de 0,5 a 10 y en presencia de un catalizador que comprende una zeolita de aluminosilicato cristalino, la cual tiene una actividad en términos de valor alfa de entre aproximadamente 2 y aproximadamente 5000, una capacidad de absorción de xileno mayor que 1 gramo/100 gramos de zeolita y un tiempo de absorción de ortoxileno para el 30% de dicha capacidad de más de 10 minutos, midiéndose dicha capacidad de absorción de ortoxileno para el 30% de dicha capacidad de más de 10 minutos, midiéndose dicha capacidad de absorción y dicho tiempo de absorcióna 120º C y a una presión de xileno de 4,5 +- 0,8 mm. de mercurio, teniendo además dicha zeolita de aluminosilicato cristalino una relación sílice de alúmina de al menos aproximadamente 12 y un índice de constreñimiento dentro de la gama aproximada de 1 a 12, por lo cual el envejecimiento de dicho catalizador durante dicha etilación es sustancialmente reducido en comparación con la reacción llevada a cabo en ausencia de hidrógeno.
