Abstract

An improved two-stage air purifying apparatus for separating the solid particles in a range of sizes from an air stream, comprising, in combination: a generally cylindrical housing around an axis extending between the first and second ends; second thereof, having a side entry opening near said first end, an axial exit opening at said first end, and collecting means near said second end for receiving particulate matter; filtering means in said housing for separating the smallest particles from the air, which have the shape of a circular truncated cone with its smaller end closed and directed out of said outlet opening and its smaller end closed and directed outwardly from said outlet exit opening; means supporting said filter means coaxially in said housing and sealing means preventing the passage of air through said housing from said entry opening to said exit opening except through said filtering means; all this to simultaneously maximize the available size of said outlet opening so as to reduce the pressure loss in the cleaner, and to maximize the volume of space contained between said housing and said filtering means at the ends thereof.
