Abstract

Un aparato perfeccionado para tratar desperdicios y separar su materiales constituyentes en una fracción ligera sustancialmente combustible de baja densidad volumétrica y una fracción pesada sustancialmente incombustible de alta densidad volumétrica, que comprende: un tambor giratorio que tiene su eje de rotación inclinado bajo un ángulo predeterminado con la horizontal y que está abierto al menos por un extremo; medios para hacer girar dicho tambor alrededor de su eje; medios para cargar los materiales de desperdicio en dicho tambor en una posición intermedia entre los extremos del mismo mientras está girando dicho tambor; medios para elevar y dejar caer los materiales dentro de dicho tambor durante la rotación del mismo para exponer los materiales a la separación por aire; medios para hacer que una corriente de aire fluya axialmente a través de dicho tambor a una velocidad predeterminada para separar al menos el 50% en peso de los materiales de desperdicio cargados, en virtud de su relación de área a masa y de su configuración aerodinámica, como la fracción ligera por el extremo superior de dicho tambor, teniendo dicho tambor una longitud, desde la posición de carga de materiales en dicho tambor hasta el extremo inferior del mismo, adecuada para conseguir que los materiales de la fracción pesada experimenten un número de acciones de elevación y caída durante su desplazamiento hasta el extremo inferior de dicho tambor para descarga como la fracción pesada, suficiente para efectuar la separación de los materiales de la fracción ligera con respecto a su condición de mezclados con los materiales de la fracción pesada; y medios para controlar dicho flujo de aire para evitar el estancamiento del material que tenga una velocidad crítica próxima a dicha velocidad predeterminada del flujo de aire a través de dicho tambor de aire giratorio.
