Abstract
An apparatus for monitoring the level of molten metal in a continuous casting mold, comprising: a mold, a refractory trough located above said mold and having a drop nozzle at the bottom, a detector for detecting the level of the metal molten contained in the mold, a controller connected to said detector and intended to produce an output signal proportional to the difference between the average value of the level of molten metal detected by said detector and the set point for a standard level of molten metal, being said controller being switchable between automatic control and manual control, cylinder means for opening and closing the sliding nozzle of said tundish and a servo mechanism provided between said controller and said nozzle opening and closing cylinder means; whose servomechanism includes a servo amplifier connected to said controller, a servo valve connected to said servo amplifier, an intermediate cylinder connected to said servo valve to drive said nozzle opening and closing cylinder means, a cylinder position detector circuit to detect the position of said intermediate cylinder means, a switching valve connected to said servo valve, to said nozzle opening and closing cylinder means and intermediate cylinder means, another switching valve connected to said servo valve to switch between a source of pressurized oil high and a low pressure oil source for compensation purposes and a control box connected to said switching valve, to said intermediate cylinder means and to said controller, whereby only said intermediate cylinder means can be re-set bring to the neutral position.
