Abstract
Procedure for the continuous separation of zirconium and hafnium tetrachlorides, from their mixtures by selective absorption of their vapors by means of a molten solvent that circulates against the current of the vapors in a column to be distilled, characterized in that the solvent is a chloraluminate and/or an alkali chlorferrate whose molar ratio of aluminum chloride and/or ferric chloride/alkali chloride is always kept above 0.95 and below 1.30 and preferably between 1.04 and 1.10 by continuous addition or AlCl3 -and/or FeCl3- is discontinuous and because it operates at a pressure of less than 5 bar and preferably at a pressure substantially equal to atmospheric pressure and at temperatures between 250ºC and 550ºC.
