Abstract
1,226,391. Magnesium fluoride. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 1 May, 1968, No. 20684/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions C6-C7] Oxide and heavy metal contaminants are removed from magnesium fluoride by mixing the impure magnesium fluoride and an impure aluminium, heating the mixture in a reaction zone at an absolute pressure above 100 mm. Hg., at a temperature between 1300‹ and 1750‹ C., condensing the vaporized products as liquids in a quiescent zone, allowing the magnesium fluoride and aluminium phases to separate and separating the phases while maintaining at least the aluminium phase in the liquid state.
