1396174 Inhibiting polymerization during distillation UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 10 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 37333/72 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions B1 and C2] A process for the fractional distillation of a mixture comprising a polymerizable compound in which elemental sulphur is utilized as a polymerization inhibitor comprises (a) introducing the mixture into a fractional distillation zone to produce an overhead stream and a bottoms stream; (b) mixing sulphur with a portion of the bottoms stream, and (c) mixing the product of (b) with the mixture of (a). The mixture to be distilled may comprise styrene, 4-ethylstyrene, methylethylstyrene, ethylvinyl benzene, divinylbenzene or vinylnaphthalene.
