Abstract

1309214 Dihalophosphines SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 16 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 53214/71 Heading C2P In the preparation of hydrocarbyldihalophosphines by reaction of phosphorus halides with saturated hydrocarbons, the reaction is effected in the liquid phase under U.V. irradiation in the absence of oxygen and with agitation. The phosphorus halide may be a trihalide in an amount of 0À005 to 50 moles per mole of hydrocarbon. The hydrocarbon may be an alkane or cycloalkane, but in the case of alkanes, some isomerization may take place during the reaction resulting in a mixture of isomeric products. The U.V. radiation is preferably of wavelength 2100-3000 Š. The reaction temperature may be - 30‹ to + 80‹ C., and pressure may be applied when required to keep the reaction mixture liquid. The reaction may be effected in a nitrogen atmosphere. The product may be separated from the reaction mixture by fractional distillation.
