Abstract

Apparatus for collecting particulate material from a gas stream to continuously separate and collect a particulate nuclear fuel material, characterized in that it comprises in combination (a) a flow channel that is connected to a source of the gas stream it carries to the material, (b) a first conduit being connected to the flow channel to receive the gas stream transporting the material, said conduit being of a size that avoids a condition of nuclear criticality, (c) valve means located in the first conduit and capable of restricting flow through the first conduit, (d) filter means housed in the first conduit to temporarily retain the material and allow the gas stream to be attracted through the filter means for passage out of the apparatus (e) gas outlet means which are connected to the filter means in the first conduit for receiving the gas stream, (f) a first container means connected to the desm notably to the first conduit to collect the material that falls from the first filter medium into the first conduit, said containing means having a size that avoids a condition of nuclear criticality, (g) a second conduit that is connected to the flow channel to receive the gas stream transporting the material, said duct being of a size that avoids a nuclear critical condition, (h) valve means housed in the second duct and capable of restricting flow through the second duct, (i) means of filter housed in the second conduit to temporarily retain the material and allowing the gas stream to be drawn through the filter means for passage out of the apparatus, (j) gas outlet means connected to the filter means in the second conduit to receive the gas stream and (k) a second container means removably connected to the second conduit to collect the material that gas from the filtering means tro in the second conduit, said container means having a size that avoids a condition of nuclear criticality.
