Abstract
A jolt foundry moulding machine has a moulding table 12 with a vertically projecting stem 16. The stem 16 is surrounded by a rapper member 24 which moves between an upper position abutting the table and a lower position, to provide jolting. At the lower end of the stem 16 is provided a piston 26 which coacts with a cylinder 28 attached to the rapper member. In operation, pressure fluid is first supplied to ducts 36, 38, 40, 42, 44 to enter a chamber 32 and force the rapper member downwardly to a position limited by ducts 52 which allow the fluid to escape. Simultaneously, the air supply is cut off as the ducts 40, 42, 44 are then out of alignment. Pressure fluid is supplied by a duct 56 to a chamber 30 above the piston 26 and during the downward movement of the rapper member is compressed in the chamber 30. Escape of fluid from the chamber 32 allows the fluid in the chamber 30 to expand, thereby forcing the rapper member 24 upwardly to provide a jolt-strike against the table 12.
