Abstract
A method of preparing a cephalosporin C derivative by recovery from a fermentation broth, characterized in that a derivative of the formula is prepared **(See formula)** where B is an acylated group of the formula -NHR or -OR; R is a lower alkyl or a group of the formula **(See formula)** where n is an integer between 1 and 6 when B is -OR and between 0 and 6 when B is -NHR, R2 and R3 are the same or different and each of them is H, Cl, Br, F, NO2, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; through the series of consecutive stages of: (A) Addition of an acylating agent selected from the group of isocyanates of formula R- N = C = O and formula haloformates **(See formula)** where R is as previously defined. X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, to a fermentation broth incubated in an acid medium, containing cephalosporin C, in an amount of at least 2 moles of acylating agent per mole of cephalosporin C, at a pH greater than 7, at a temperature below 40ºC, to form a cephalosporin derivative C; and (b) recovering the cephalosporin C derivative from the fermentation broth.
