Abstract
Cephalosporin C derivatives.. G3A. of formula:- (where B is an acylating group of formula- NHR or-OR; R is lower alkyl or a group of formula:- where n is 1 to 6 if B is -OR and zero to 6 if B is -NHR, and R2 and R3 denote H, Cl, Br, F, NO2, lower alkyl or alkoxy) are produced by A) adding an acylating agent such as an isocyanate of formula R-N=C=O or a haloformate of formula X-COOR (where X is Cl, Br or I) to an acid-incubated culture-broth containing cephalosporin C, in acylating agent to cephalosporin C mole ratio 5:1 to 8:1, at pH above 7 (pref. 7-9) and below 40 degrees C (pref. 9-25 degrees C) and B) separated from the culture-broth, pref. by extraction at pH 1-3 using a water-immiscible solvent. 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (an intermediate in the production of antibiotics) is obtained by the decomposition of the cephalosporin C derivatives by A) forming the silyl esters, halogenating, converting the iminohalide obtained to an iminoether and mixing with water and/or alcohol.
