Abstract

Penicillins of the general formula: <FORM:0962943/C1/1> wherein X represents an alkylene group may be prepared by reacting 6-aminopenicillamic acid with a mixed anhydride obtained from the appropriate a -phenyl-o -carbobenzoxy-aminoacid and an ester of chlorocarbonic acid, in the presence of a tertiary amine and splitting off the carbobenzoxy group by catalytic hydrogenation. Examples describe the production of (-)-b -amino-a -phenylethyl-, a -phenyl-g -aminopropyl- and a -phenyl-d -aminobutyl-penicillins. Specification 960,896 is referred to.
