Abstract
Polymers are obtained by the polymerization of D 2-oxazolines of formula <FORM:1086572/C3/1> where R1 to R5 are hydrogen atoms or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radicals, in the presence of a cation-active catalyst. There may be from 0.001 to 5% by weight of the catalyst present, based on the D 2-oxazoline, and the polymerization may be carried out at 70 DEG to 280 DEG C. In examples, polymers are obtained from 2-n-propyl-D 2-oxazoline, 2-p-tolyl - D 2 - oxazoline and 2 - phenyl - D 2 - oxazoline using as catalysts p-nitrophenyl diazonium fluorborate, iodine, dimethyl sulphate, diethyl sulphate, sulphuric acid, tin tetrachloride, borontrifluoride etherate, ethyl iodide, p-toluene sulphonic acid, 2-phenyl-D 2-oxazoline perchlorate, 2-phenyl-D 2-oxazoline hydroiodide, ethyl iodide, methyl iodide, phosphoric acid, hydrogen iodide, p-toluenesulphonic-benzoic anhydride and benzenesulphonic-propionic anhydride.
