The condensed phosphate is an alkali metal or ammonium phosphate having a molar ratio of M 2 O:P 2 O 5 in the range 1.7:1 to 0.9:1 and may be sodium tripolyphosphate. The composition may contain an antifoaming agent, e.g. a silicone or an ester or ether of a polyglycol.
