Abstract
The invention relates to a hydraulic machine such as a turbine or pump or pump/turbine comprising a spiral casing which communicates with the runner or impeller through a guide vane assembly. A Francis turbine is shown in Fig. 1 and comprises a runner 2 mounted on a shaft 1, water being supplied from the spiral casing 3 through a guide vane assembly comprising fixed guide vanes 27 and adjustable guide vanes 5, the adjustable guide vanes having stub shafts 6, 7 mounted in bearings 8, 9 in lower and upper ring members 10, 13, the vanes being movable by actuators 22 acting through lever arms 21. The upper wall of the inlet ducting comprises the ring member 13 and an inner ring member 14 which extends towards the runner 2, the two ring members being inter-connected by a member 15. A number of rods 16 extend from the member 15 parallel to the axis of the machine to a support member 20 secured to the concrete structure 17 whereby part of the load to which the ring member 13 is subjected and the whole load to which the ring member 14 is subjected are transmitted to the concrete structure. The guide vanes 5 may be removed by raising the ring member to the position 13a and removing the vanes as indicated at 5a. A Kaplan type turbine is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a runner 2 mounted on a shaft 1, water being supplied from a spiral casing 3 through a guide vane assembly comprising fixed guide vanes 27 and adjustable guide vanes 5. The upper wall of the inlet duct comprises ring member 13, in which the upper stub shafts 7 of the guide vanes 5 are supported in bearings 9, and ring member 14 which extends towards the shaft 1 of the machine, the ring members 13, 14 being inter-connected by member 15. The ring member 14 comprises spaced parallel members 23, 24 which are interconnected by radial struts 25, the upper member 24 being connected to a support member 20 integral with the concrete structure 17 whereby a portion of the load to which the ring 13 is subjected and the whole of the load to which the ring 14 is subjected are transmitted to the concrete structure.
